About Us

Heidi Bell, owner of Spindrift Boarding and Training
Heidi has been riding since she was 5; her first pony was a small palomino named Bingo. She had a successful junior career, from children's hunters to high junior amateur jumpers. Heidi's parents purchased Spindrift Farm when she was a young teenager, so she has grown up here on the farm working. After high school Heidi took a break from riding to pursue an education in biotechnology, and has been working full time in Nuclear Medicine QC Microbiology since 2000.
Heidi purchased the business from her parents 3 years ago when they retired. After taking 10 years off from riding to coach Spindrift's students, Heidi finally returned to the show ring in 2009 with Halo in the jumpers, finishing up the year with several wins and championships. This year Heidi is riding in the Adult Hunters with Milaan B.

Heidi's lifelong love of horses ensures that all horses at Spindrift receive nothing but the very best of everything!

Adam Hickey - Hunter/Jumper Trainer/Coach
coming soon

Catherine Maguire - Dressage and Novice Coach
Catherine learned to ride as an adult with her first lesson at Spindrift twenty years ago! While raising a family and pursuing her career as an engineer at Nortel, she made sure she had time to pursue the passion that first lesson ignited. Over the years, she has enjoyed riding many of the "old timers" at Spindrift and has honed her skills on a special few (including her own horse, Clayton, who she competed at local Hunter and Trillium Dressage shows). Catherine has gone on to certify under the Ontario Equestrian Federation (OEF) rider levels and coaching programs. She currently holds an OEF English Riding Instructor qualification and is working on the requirements for Coach 1. She has 8 years' experience teaching beginners and novices how to ride safely, correctly and effectively, providing them with a solid foundation in both flatwork and jumping skills. In her teaching, Catherine follows the OEF curriculum set out in their Rider Levels Program. She also possesses valid Red Cross 1st Aid certification. Her special passion is Dressage and she continues to develop her own riding skills, her horses and her students for more advanced work in this area.

Claire Sawyer - Stable Manager
Claire (aka 'Mighty Mouse'!) has been Spindrift's stable manager since the fall of 2009. She has been riding since she was ten years old when she fell in love while riding a friend's horse. Claire has worked at a disabled riding stable as a volunteer trainer and assistant coach, and at Sunnybrook Stables in Toronto as a stable hand. Claire has experience in Dressage, Eventing and the Hunter/Jumper world, and she hopes to coach riding in the future!

Mara Frew and Daelyn Ramsay - Stable workers
Mara first fell in love with horses when she was 9 years old. She has been riding since June 2005, and was a member of the Appleton Pony Club before she moved to lessons at Spindrift. Mara plans to spend the rest of her life with horses and run her own stable someday!
Daelyn has been around horses her whole life and always will be; she currently lives at Spindrift Farm and helps out whenever she can. She was a member of the Stone Bridge Pony Club and moved on from that in order to spend more time with her own horse Lexi. Daelyn's riding idol is Ainsley Vince and she hopes to be able to ride like her someday. Daelyn thanks Adam and Catherine for helping her with her riding!
